| Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Spy Shots |
Although the CLA Class hasn’t been unveiled, Mercedes have provided some official spy shots along with confirmation that the CLA 45 AMG will use the German marque’s 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
The advance electronic system is 25% lighter than similar programs on rival cars and is only on when needed, so the car runs in front-wheel-drive mode most of the time which aids economy. When ABS is enabled and the driver brakes heavily, the rear powertrain is deactivated so torque is reduced to nothing. The program also redistributes the drive torque to cope with over and understeer. If that fails, the ESP is engaged.
The CLA Class uses the same platform as the A-Class and B-Class Mercs and the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo as the A45 AMG. You can expect the four-door coupe to reach 62mph in around 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 155mph which could stretch to 175mph if the electronic limiter is removed.
The compact Merc is scheduled to appear at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
