BMW 2-Series: Spy Shots

 BMW are currently doing what they can to offload the last of the 1-Series Coupe and Convertibles with the launch of the Lifestyle limited edition in 2013. In the same year the 2-Series will debut in an effort to push the German marque’s smallest car further upmarket.
BMW have tried to disguise the shape, but our spy shots show a car that is clearly an evolutionary step from the existing 1-Series Coupe. The current 1-Series Sports Hatch front end leads to sportier wide wheelarches and a lowered roofline. Although the engine range will be shared with the 1-Series, lowered suspension will offer better handling than the five-door. Plans for a Convertible version and a high performance M2 are in the works.
When released, the 2-Series will be the next step toward a new naming structure for the prestige brand that will make the even numbered cars the sport versions. A 4-Series is expected sometime in 2013 to add to the existing 6-Series. How long before an 8-Series is produced?
